Web of Science Platform: Research Commons (RC) Now Accessible

A new database has been added to the Web of Science Platform, which already includes the Web of Science Core Collection, Grants Index, KCI-Korean Journal Database, Preprint Citation Index, ProQuest™ Dissertations & Theses Citation Index, and SciELO Citation Index databases: Research Commons (RC)

Research Commons is a separate database that is not part of the Core Collection. Research Commons, which offers expanded content to enable flexible discovery and comprehensive research evaluation, provides:

  • Broader coverage across regions and disciplines: Research Commons adds a significant amount of content in social sciences, arts and humanities fields and from the Global South. 53% of content is from researchers in the Global South, and 43% is in the social sciences, arts, and humanities
  • Expanded contentMore than 32 million documents published in journals in the last 10 years sourced from open platforms, starting with Crossref and OpenAlex at launch— increasing the amount of journal content discoverable on the platform by 21%
  • More open access content: 39% of content is published via open access models
  • Connected content for advanced discovery: Records are integrated into the Web of Science citation network, creating more linkages between papers.
  • Unified author affiliation data: Institution names are cleanly mapped to standardized organization names – enhanced data improves discoverability.

Researchers will have the ability to add Research Commons publications to their profiles.
